SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Mel Gass of Creve Coeur, who passed away on January 17, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Mel Gass was born in Peoria to Henry and Bettie (Snoke) Gass on October 3, 1957; he served in the United States Army and married Donna (Tonjes) Getz in Groveland on February 29, 2004; and

WHEREAS, Mel Gass worked as a Steamfitter at TSI in Mossville since 1996, retiring in 2015; he was a member of Steamfitters Local 353 in Peoria; and

WHEREAS, Affectionately known as "Uncle Mel", Mel Gass had a generous heart and a big sense of humor; he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family and friends, sharing stories; and

WHEREAS, Mel Gass was preceded in death by his father and his brother, John Gass; and

WHEREAS, Mel Gass is survived by his wife, Donna; his son, Joshua Gass; his mother and stepfather, Bettie and Everett Copeland; his sisters, Debbie (Pat) Murphy, Joni (Scott) Andrews, and Sandy (Fred) Garfield; his stepsister, Linett (Mike) Starch; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Mel Gass, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mel Gass as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
