SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Anthony "Tony" Romano of Wood River, who passed away on July 23, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Anthony Romano was born in Alton to Salvatore and Antonina (Terranova) Romano on February 15, 1918; he was raised at the Catholic Children's Home and returned as a young adult to be a Boy Scout leader; he married Josephine "Jo" Berghoff in Alton on August 26, 1939; and

WHEREAS, Anthony Romano worked at Olin Corporation as a manager of the shipping and receiving department; he retired after 44 years of service; and

WHEREAS, For over 85 years, Anthony Romano was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, where he was part of the Holy Name Society and sang in the choir for 51 years; he was also a member of the Alton Knights of Columbus, where he served as an officer, the Management Club, the Westerner Club, the Alton Eagles, and the Alton-Wood River Sportsman's Club, where he and his wife danced every Saturday night for many years; they enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe during retirement; his favorite pastime was watching Cardinal baseball and golf on TV and spending time with his beloved family; and

WHEREAS, Anthony Romano was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Josephine; his parents; his sisters, Rose Dipiazzo and Geraldine Martino; his brothers, Frank and Andrew Romano; and his son-in-law, Charles Peck; and

WHEREAS, Anthony Romano is survived by his daughters, Judi Peck and Mary Jo Romano-Buesteton; his son-in-law, who he loved like a son, Joel Buesteton; his grandchildren, Erin (Carl) Oest-Larsen, Kyle (Liz) Buesteton, and Sarah Buesteton; his great-grandchildren, Lene and Kate Oest-Larsen and Beck Anthony Buesteton; his sister-in-law, Mary Oldham; his brother-in-law, Robert Berghoff; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Anthony "Tony" Romano, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Anthony Romano as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
