SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Anthony "Tony" Romano of Wood River, who
4passed away on July 23, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Anthony Romano was born in Alton to Salvatore and
6Antonina (Terranova) Romano on February 15, 1918; he was raised
7at the Catholic Children's Home and returned as a young adult
8to be a Boy Scout leader; he married Josephine "Jo" Berghoff in
9Alton on August 26, 1939; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Anthony Romano worked at Olin Corporation as a
11manager of the shipping and receiving department; he retired
12after 44 years of service; and
 
13    WHEREAS, For over 85 years, Anthony Romano was a member of
14St. Mary Catholic Church, where he was part of the Holy Name
15Society and sang in the choir for 51 years; he was also a
16member of the Alton Knights of Columbus, where he served as an
17officer, the Management Club, the Westerner Club, the Alton
18Eagles, and the Alton-Wood River Sportsman's Club, where he and
19his wife danced every Saturday night for many years; they
20enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Canada, and
21Europe during retirement; his favorite pastime was watching
22Cardinal baseball and golf on TV and spending time with his

1beloved family; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Anthony Romano was preceded in death by his wife
3of 73 years, Josephine; his parents; his sisters, Rose Dipiazzo
4and Geraldine Martino; his brothers, Frank and Andrew Romano;
5and his son-in-law, Charles Peck; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Anthony Romano is survived by his daughters, Judi
7Peck and Mary Jo Romano-Buesteton; his son-in-law, who he loved
8like a son, Joel Buesteton; his grandchildren, Erin (Carl)
9Oest-Larsen, Kyle (Liz) Buesteton, and Sarah Buesteton; his
10great-grandchildren, Lene and Kate Oest-Larsen and Beck
11Anthony Buesteton; his sister-in-law, Mary Oldham; his
12brother-in-law, Robert Berghoff; and numerous nieces, nephews,
13great-nieces, and nephews; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Anthony "Tony" Romano, and extend our sincere condolences to
17his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
18further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Anthony Romano as an expression of
21our deepest sympathy.
