SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Edward P. Smith of Shorewood, who passed away on August 9, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Edward Smith was employed by Downers Grove Township for over 48 years; he began his career as a truck driver and highway maintainer; he was then promoted to foreman; he was elected Downers Grove Township Highway Commissioner in 1981; he was re-elected six times and served as Highway Commissioner for 28 years; and

WHEREAS, Edward Smith was the beloved husband of Josephine (Coolidge) Smith; the loving father of Edward Jr. (Stephanie), Kathryn (James) Buczko, John, David, Peter (Kristen), Wilcott (Stacey), and Donald Smith; the cherished grandfather of Samuel, Jacob, Kaelan, Cleo, Amelia, and Wilcott, the caring brother of the late Donald Smith; the dear brother-in-law of Claude Coolidge, Max (Jean) Coolidge, and Patricia Vasquez, and the fond uncle of many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Edward P. Smith, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Edward Smith as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
