| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Althea M. Walkington of Ringwood, who | 4 | | passed away on August 14, 2017; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Althea Walkington was born in Avoca, Wisconsin to | 6 | | Edwin and Ida Benoy on July 28, 1920; after her mother's death, | 7 | | her father moved his family from Wisconsin to a dairy farm on | 8 | | Howe Road in Greenwood Township, McHenry County; she received | 9 | | her elementary education in the one-room Howe School and then | 10 | | graduated from Woodstock High School in 1938; she married Paul | 11 | | Walkington in 1939; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Althea Walkington was known by many from her years | 13 | | of selling Dutch Maid clothing at home parties; she then worked | 14 | | as a clerk in the Ringwood Post Office; she was one of the | 15 | | original members of The Citizens for Ringwood Organization, | 16 | | which successfully petitioned the state legislature to create | 17 | | legislation that would allow small communities of under 500 | 18 | | citizens to become incorporated; she worked tirelessly by | 19 | | knocking on doors and obtaining signatures on petitions that | 20 | | promoted the referendum for incorporation; and | 21 | | WHEREAS, Althea Walkington was an active member of the | 22 | | Ringwood United Methodist Church, which was the center of the |

| 1 | | spiritual, social, and community service that encompassed her | 2 | | life; she was the leader of The Ringwood Sunshine Girls 4H | 3 | | Club, where she taught generations of young women how to sew | 4 | | and do needle work; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Althea Walkington and her husband followed their | 6 | | dream and built a cabin on Legend Lake near Shawano, Wisconsin; | 7 | | the cabin quickly became the gathering spot for family and | 8 | | church functions and for friends who were invited to spend a | 9 | | weekend at the lake; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Althea Walkington was preceded in death by her | 11 | | parents; her husband; her brothers, Darrel, Harry, Glen, | 12 | | Wilbur, Raymond, and Alvin; her sisters, Alice (Vincent) Moan | 13 | | and Arlene (Ray) Wilcox; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Althea Walkington is survived by her children, Jay | 15 | | (Jan) Walkington, Ida Mae (Clarence) Adams, Tom (Maya) | 16 | | Walkington, and Lee Walkington; her grandchildren, Doug (Kim), | 17 | | Chad, Tanya, and Lincoln (Courtney) Adams, Jolie (Steve) | 18 | | Galovich, and Karen (Gary) McDowell; and her eleven | 19 | | great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
