SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Verna Wilson of Waukegan, who passed away on August 27, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Verna Wilson was born in Chicago to James and Earline Wilson, on November 2, 1962; she received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Teaching and her Master of Education in Workforce Development and Training from Southern Illinois University; she earned a Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Administration from Aurora University and a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Organization and Leadership from the University of Illinois; recently, she earned an Education Specialist degree with Superintendent Licensure from Western Illinois University; and

WHEREAS, Verna Wilson was passionate about literacy; she began her career as an educator over 30 years ago; she served as a teacher, a principal, a director of financial aid, an adjunct professor, and most recently as the Professional Learning and Literacy Administrator for the Waukegan Public School District 60; and

WHEREAS, Verna Wilson was a proud member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.; she served as both president of the Waukegan Public Library Foundation Board and as a board trustee; and

WHEREAS, Verna Wilson was preceded in death by her parents; and her sisters, Lillie and Jo Anne; and

WHEREAS, Verna Wilson is survived by the love of her life; her daughter, Alyana; her sisters, Lue, Sandra, and Sakenna (Lewis); her brothers, Michael and James (Gwen); and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of Verna Wilson, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Verna Wilson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
