SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Verna Wilson of Waukegan, who passed away
4on August 27, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Verna Wilson was born in Chicago to James and
6Earline Wilson, on November 2, 1962; she received her Bachelor
7of Science in Elementary Education and Teaching and her Master
8of Education in Workforce Development and Training from
9Southern Illinois University; she earned a Master of Education
10in Educational Leadership and Administration from Aurora
11University and a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational
12Organization and Leadership from the University of Illinois;
13recently, she earned an Education Specialist degree with
14Superintendent Licensure from Western Illinois University; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Verna Wilson was passionate about literacy; she
16began her career as an educator over 30 years ago; she served
17as a teacher, a principal, a director of financial aid, an
18adjunct professor, and most recently as the Professional
19Learning and Literacy Administrator for the Waukegan Public
20School District 60; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Verna Wilson was a proud member of the Alpha Kappa
22Alpha Sorority Inc.; she served as both president of the

1Waukegan Public Library Foundation Board and as a board
2trustee; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Verna Wilson was preceded in death by her parents;
4and her sisters, Lillie and Jo Anne; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Verna Wilson is survived by the love of her life;
6her daughter, Alyana; her sisters, Lue, Sandra, and Sakenna
7(Lewis); her brothers, Michael and James (Gwen); and many
8nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends;
9therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the death of
12Verna Wilson, and extend our sincere condolences to her family,
13friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Verna Wilson as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
