SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The United States Congress has let the Children's
3Health Insurance Program (CHIP) expire; this is the first time
4in two decades that this was allowed to happen; and
 
5    WHEREAS, CHIP is a federal health insurance option for
6working families without access to insurance; now, insurance
7for more than 100,000 Illinois children remains uncertain; and
 
8    WHEREAS, CHIP provides prenatal care to over 370,000
9pregnant women across the nation; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Last year, Illinois received more than $200
11million to fund CHIP; that money will not run out until next
12year; and
 
13    WHEREAS, CHIP has helped decrease the number of uninsured
14children to a record low of 7%; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Children are our State's greatest asset; they must
16grow up healthy to support our future economy; and
 
17    WHEREAS, A five-year renewal plan is already drafted;
18Congress is expected to call it for a vote in the coming weeks;
19therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we urge the United
3States Congress to renew the Children's Health Insurance
4Program (CHIP) to provide stability and certainty to the
5children of Illinois; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
7delivered to President Donald Trump, U.S. Senate Majority
8Leader Mitch McConnell, U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck
9Schumer, U.S. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, U.S. House of
10Representatives Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, and all members
11of the Illinois Congressional Delegation.
