SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Barbara Kaye Barlow, who passed away on
4October 3, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Barbara Barlow was born in Chicago to Sam and Lula
6Stewart on January 3, 1944; she attended Bryant and King
7Elementary Schools and Farragut High School on Chicago's West
8Side; she attended Chicago State University, where she received
9a Bachelor of Science in Education; she received her master's
10degree from Governor State University and married Albert A.
11Barlow in 1963; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Barbara Barlow's first job was at the Reno
13Theatre, then later at Speigel's Catalog Company; she was a
14stay at home mom and raised her children until they were
15"school ready"; her passion and dream was to become a teacher
16which she fulfilled when she became a 6th grade teacher at
17Caldwell Elementary School, a position she held until she
18retired; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Barbara Barlow was affectionately known as
20"Kaye"; In her early years, she enjoyed playing Scrabble and
21talking on the phone; she was a member of The Uniques Savings
22Club and held an annual Christmas party; in her later years,

1she became an avid fan of "The Price is Right", "Jeopardy",
2"Let's Make a Deal", and many other game shows; she was a
3member of Bellevue Baptist Church in Chicago, where she taught
4Sunday school; she will be remembered for her infectious smile,
5kind words and cheerful personality; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Barbara Barlow was preceded in death by her
7daughter, Cheryl (William) Washington; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Barbara Barlow is survived by her husband, Albert;
9her children, Darren and Erik (Roxanne); her grandchildren,
10Lane, Cameron, Erik, and Tramell; her great-granddaughter,
11Cobi; her brother, Sam (Bertha) Stewart; her sisters-in-law,
12Dorothy Newberry and Margaret (Theodore) Thornton; her
13brother-in-law, Kenneth (Ouida) Barlow; and numerous nieces,
14nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17Barbara Kaye Barlow, and extend our sincere condolences to her
18family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
19further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Barbara Barlow as an expression of
22our deepest sympathy.
