SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Barbara Kaye Barlow, who passed away on October 3, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Barbara Barlow was born in Chicago to Sam and Lula Stewart on January 3, 1944; she attended Bryant and King Elementary Schools and Farragut High School on Chicago's West Side; she attended Chicago State University, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Education; she received her master's degree from Governor State University and married Albert A. Barlow in 1963; and

WHEREAS, Barbara Barlow's first job was at the Reno Theatre, then later at Speigel's Catalog Company; she was a stay at home mom and raised her children until they were "school ready"; her passion and dream was to become a teacher which she fulfilled when she became a 6th grade teacher at Caldwell Elementary School, a position she held until she retired; and

WHEREAS, Barbara Barlow was affectionately known as "Kaye"; In her early years, she enjoyed playing Scrabble and talking on the phone; she was a member of The Uniques Savings Club and held an annual Christmas party; in her later years, she became an avid fan of "The Price is Right", "Jeopardy", "Let's Make a Deal", and many other game shows; she was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church in Chicago, where she taught Sunday school; she will be remembered for her infectious smile, kind words and cheerful personality; and

WHEREAS, Barbara Barlow was preceded in death by her daughter, Cheryl (William) Washington; and

WHEREAS, Barbara Barlow is survived by her husband, Albert; her children, Darren and Erik (Roxanne); her grandchildren, Lane, Cameron, Erik, and Tramell; her great-granddaughter, Cobi; her brother, Sam (Bertha) Stewart; her sisters-in-law, Dorothy Newberry and Margaret (Theodore) Thornton; her brother-in-law, Kenneth (Ouida) Barlow; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Barbara Kaye Barlow, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Barbara Barlow as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
