SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Joseph J. Ambrose of LeRoy, who passed
4away on October 2, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Joseph Ambrose was born in Champaign to James and
6Pearl (Judy) Ambrose on April 29, 1927; he graduated from
7University High School in Urbana and enlisted in the United
8States Navy at the age of 17, serving in the Pacific during
9World War II; he married Charlotte Mittendorf at Holy Cross
10Church in Champaign on August 18, 1948 and received a
11bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Illinois in
121949; he graduated from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking
13at Rutgers University; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Joseph Ambrose worked for the FDIC as a federal
15bank examiner until joining LeRoy State Bank in 1967, where he
16served as president and later chairman of the board, retiring
17in 1995; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Joseph Ambrose was active in many organizations in
19LeRoy, including the Crumbaugh Library Board, the LeRoy Boy
20Scouts, the LeRoy Kiwanis, the LeRoy Chamber of Commerce, and
21the Red Cross; he was a member and past president of the LeRoy
22Country Club; he was also a member of the University of

1Illinois President's Council, St. Mary's Church of Downs, and
2was a life member of American Legion Post 79; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Joseph Ambrose enjoyed playing golf and spending
4time in Florida; he was an avid reader, particularly of books
5on American history and enjoyed the company of his family and
6his friends; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Joseph Ambrose was preceded in death by his son,
8Gregory R. Ambrose; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Joseph Ambrose is survived by his loving wife,
10Charlotte; his children, Julie Ambrose, Mary Ambrose, Joseph
11(Julianne) Ambrose, James (Kathryn) Ambrose, and Margaret
12Ambrose; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren;
13therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Joseph J. Ambrose, and extend our sincere condolences to his
17family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
18further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Joseph Ambrose as an expression of
21our deepest sympathy.
