SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Joseph J. Ambrose of LeRoy, who passed away on October 2, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Ambrose was born in Champaign to James and Pearl (Judy) Ambrose on April 29, 1927; he graduated from University High School in Urbana and enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 17, serving in the Pacific during World War II; he married Charlotte Mittendorf at Holy Cross Church in Champaign on August 18, 1948 and received a bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Illinois in 1949; he graduated from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Ambrose worked for the FDIC as a federal bank examiner until joining LeRoy State Bank in 1967, where he served as president and later chairman of the board, retiring in 1995; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Ambrose was active in many organizations in LeRoy, including the Crumbaugh Library Board, the LeRoy Boy Scouts, the LeRoy Kiwanis, the LeRoy Chamber of Commerce, and the Red Cross; he was a member and past president of the LeRoy Country Club; he was also a member of the University of Illinois President's Council, St. Mary's Church of Downs, and was a life member of American Legion Post 79; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Ambrose enjoyed playing golf and spending time in Florida; he was an avid reader, particularly of books on American history and enjoyed the company of his family and his friends; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Ambrose was preceded in death by his son, Gregory R. Ambrose; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Ambrose is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte; his children, Julie Ambrose, Mary Ambrose, Joseph (Julianne) Ambrose, James (Kathryn) Ambrose, and Margaret Ambrose; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Joseph J. Ambrose, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Joseph Ambrose as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
