SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Bruce Edward Donnelly of Barrington, who passed away on May 25, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Bruce Donnelly was born in Arlington, Virginia to Margaret and Edward Donnelly on March 8, 1955; he moved to Barrington in 1968 and graduated from Barrington High School in 1973; he later received his master's degree in international business from the University of South Carolina; and

WHEREAS, Bruce Donnelly served as a U.S. diplomat under President Ronald Reagan; while with the State Department, he served both in Pakistan and Germany and learned to speak German; as a business consultant, he lived in Brazil and learned to speak Portuguese; he traveled a great deal to Britain, working on revitalizing its industry in the northern part of the country; he later worked for several organizations in corporate relocation services; and

WHEREAS, Bruce Donnelly's interests included travel, photography, foreign policy, and politics; and

WHEREAS, Bruce Donnelly was preceded in death by his parents; and

WHEREAS, Bruce Donnelly is survived by his wife, Dolores Jean (Dietrich); his children, Diana Regin and William Edward; his brother, Bob; his sister, Linda (Jody) Hurlburt; and by many loving nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Bruce Edward Donnelly and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bruce Donnelly as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
