SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of John "Terry" McFadden of Shorewood, who passed away on June 11, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Terry McFadden was born in Joliet and attended Joliet East High School, where he was the star pitcher on the school baseball team; he graduated from Illinois State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education and then earned his Master of Science in Educational Administration from Northern Illinois University; he continued with post graduate studies throughout his teaching career; and

WHEREAS, Terry McFadden taught English at Downers Grove North and South High Schools for 35 years, retiring in 2007; while at Downers Grove, he was an assistant baseball coach and a peer mentor; he taught Rhetoric in the evening school at Joliet Junior College for many years; he also served on the Troy School Board for over 40 years and was elected for the first time when he was only 28 years old; he was very proud of the teachers, staff, students, and the community that he represented; and

WHEREAS, Terry McFadden was a volunteer baseball coach in many local baseball leagues from pinto level to pony league; he coached his three sons and many athletes from the Shorewood area; he was also an accomplished junior high, high school, and college basketball official and twice officiated the IHSA State Finals; he was once awarded Official of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Terry McFadden was preceded in death by his son, Chris; and

WHEREAS, Terry McFadden is survived by his devoted wife of almost 50 years, Susan McFadden; his two sons, Dr. James (Ginger) and Daniel (Ashley); his daughter-in-law, Sarah, his seven grandchildren, Brooke, Matt, Erin, Ginnie-Sue, Anastasia, Declan, and Michael; and his one grandchild on the way; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of John "Terry" McFadden and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Terry McFadden as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
