SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Richard Joseph Hoeniges of Bloomington, who passed away on July 26, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Richard Hoeniges was born to Martin J. and Eileen Hoeniges on December 7, 1937; he graduated from Trinity High School in 1956 and joined the U.S. Army Reserve in 1957; he married Gloria Ann Sweeney on January 10, 1959; and

WHEREAS, Richard Hoeniges joined the Bloomington Police Department in 1960 and served his community for 31 years, retiring as a detective; he was affectionately called "Pops" by his fellow officers; and

WHEREAS, Richard Hoeniges had a deep faith and played an active part in the Cursillo movement; he started a chaplain program at the police department and served tirelessly at St. Mary's Loaves and Fishes soup kitchen; he was a man full of love, compassion, honesty, humility and grace; he had a natural ability to lift the spirits of those around him using his charm, kindness and dry sense of humor; he enjoyed living life to the fullest; and

WHEREAS, Richard Hoeniges was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Andrew and John Hoeniges; numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and two nephews; and

WHEREAS, Richard Hoeniges is survived by his wife of over 61 years, Gloria; his sons, Richard (Mary) Hoeniges II, Robert (Robin) Hoeniges, James (Laura) Hoeniges, Daniel (Julie) Hoeniges, and Joseph (Carol) Hoeniges; his daughter, Mauria (Kenneth) Herman; his grandchildren, Levi, Maurice, Noah, Jared, Erik, Abigail, Jack, Kain, Chelsea, Lily, Ivy, Jazmine, Kaleb, Tacoma, and Kole; his great-grandchildren, Malia, Luna, Avery, and Violet; his siblings, Martin Hoeniges, Florence (E. Michael) Walsh, Marie Evans, Patricia (Dan) Richardson, and Elizabeth (Dale) Kindred; his sisters-in-law, Tammy Hoeniges, Phyllis Prochnow, and Ruth Sweeney; his brother-in-law, John (Debba) Sweeney; and many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Richard Joseph Hoeniges and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Richard Hoeniges as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
