SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John D. Barnard of Lincoln, who passed
4away on September 2, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Barnard was born to J.B. and Alice Wright
6Barnard in Normal on October 28, 1948; he graduated from
7Lexington High School and then Illinois State University; he
8served his country in the National Guard; he married Janet
9Bressner in 1970; he later married Muriel Dahmm on April 1,
101995; after her death in 2012, he married Zelma Martin in
11Atlanta, Illinois on November 17, 2018; and
 
12    WHEREAS, John Barnard was a seeds man for Jacques Seed Corn
13Company and a bookkeeper for Alexander Lumber; in retirement,
14he worked several years at the Lincoln Park District Rec
15Center; and
 
16    WHEREAS, John Barnard was a member of the Normal Masonic
17Lodge and of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church; and
 
18    WHEREAS, John Barnard was a man of faith who enjoyed
19spending time with his family, reminiscing about old times, and
20following his nieces and nephews activities; he loved being a
21grandfather and was a wonderful role model; he will be

1remembered especially for his gentle manner and kind soul; and
 
2    WHEREAS, John Barnard was preceded in death by his parents
3and his stepdaughter, Robin Martin Tackett; and
 
4    WHEREAS, John Barnard is survived by his wife, Zelma; his
5sister, Betty (Paul) Duzan; his brother, Robert (Deborah)
6Barnard; his stepdaughter, Jennifer (Doug Gellner); his
7stepson, Daniel Martin; his three step-grandsons, T.J., Kyle,
8and Hayden Gellner; his sister-in-laws, Laura Tomlinson,
9Vivian (Geraldo) Valdes, and Georgia Allison; his five nieces
10and eight nephews, Jason Duzan, Jill Johnson, Kristina Waugh,
11Benjamin Barnard, Nathan Barnard, Matthew Barnard, Jason
12Tomlinson, Will Tomlinson, Esther Farmer, Elise Valdes,
13Alejandro Valdes, Fay Allison, and Lewis Allison; and his
14several great-nieces and great-nephews; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
17John D. Barnard and extend our sincere condolences to his
18family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
19further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of John Barnard as an expression of our
22deepest sympathy.
