SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of M. Lynn Martin of Springfield, who passed
4away on September 16, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lynn Martin was born in Vincennes, Indiana to Hugh
6A. and Ruth E. (Clark) Martin on November 2, 1948; he grew up
7in Lawrenceville and attended Southern Illinois University; he
8served in the U.S. Army from 1969 through 1971, which included
9time as a chaplain's assistant in Heidelberg, Germany; he
10married Diane Midkiff on August 7, 1971, and they relocated to
11Oklahoma, where he attended Oklahoma Baptist University; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Lynn Martin and his wife returned to Illinois in
131973, and he began his ministry at First Baptist Church in
14Effingham; shortly thereafter, he was ordained by the Southern
15Baptist Church; he ministered through music to several churches
16in Springfield, including Springfield Southern Baptist Church,
17Wesley United Methodist Church, First United Methodist Church,
18and, most recently, Third Presbyterian Church; professionally,
19he worked for the State of Illinois and retired in 2010; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Lynn Martin was a talented pianist, singer, and
21choral director; he gave his time and talents to local
22community theaters and served on production staffs and

1performed with The Muni, the Springfield Theater Center, the
2Theater in the Park, and The Legacy Theater; he also
3accompanied a variety of musicals for area schools and served
4as a judge in regional school music contests; in his
5retirement, he was a music teacher at St. Aloysius School; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Lynn Martin was an advocate for honoring the
7American flag; he had the privilege of serving as a volunteer
8guardian with the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight chapter and
9accompanied World War II and Korean War veterans on trips to
10the memorials in Washington, D.C.; he was also proud to serve
11as a local election judge; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Lynn Martin was affectionately known as "Paw Paw"
13to his grandchildren; his heart was never more full than when
14he was with his family; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Lynn Martin was preceded in death by his parents;
16his sister, Marianna Martin; his father-in-law, Elvis J.
17Midkiff; his brothers-in-law, Elvis L. and Lyle E. Midkiff; and
18his sister-in-law, Cheryl Gadberry; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Lynn Martin is survived by his wife of 49 years,
20Diane; his sons, Ryan Martin, Bradley (Adria) Martin, and
21Jeffrey Martin; and his grandchildren, Hope, Madison, Jake,
22Addie, Karli, Andrew, Clara, and Ava; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
3M. Lynn Martin and extend our sincere condolences to his
4family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
5further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Lynn Martin as an expression of our
8deepest sympathy.
