SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Frank E. Edwards of Springfield, who
4passed away along with his wife on January 28, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Frank Edwards was born in Springfield to Francis
6and Berniece M. (Hashman) Edwards on September 16, 1950; he
7graduated from Glenwood High School in 1968; he served in the
8Illinois National Guard from 1969 to 1975; he received his
9teaching degree from Eastern Illinois University in 1974; he
10married Cinda J. Janssen on January 15, 1983; he was a lifelong
11Springfield resident; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Frank Edwards began his career at the Springfield
13Fire Department in 1977 and retired in 2002, spending his final
1419 months serving as chief; he was elected and proudly served
15as the Ward 1 Alderman for the City of Springfield from 2003 to
162015; he also served as interim-mayor from December 2010 to
17April 2011; alongside his wife, he owned and operated
18Springfield Auto Body and Towing from 2005 onwards; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Frank Edwards was a longtime member of the
20Sangamon County Republicans and Island Bay Yacht Club; he
21enjoyed flying and was a commercial pilot and a pilot
22instructor; he also enjoyed boating, traveling, and spending

1time with his family and their beloved doodle, Lily, as well as
2their rescue dog, Nicky; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Frank Edwards was preceded in death by his parents
4and a brother-in-law, Melvin Rich; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Frank Edwards is survived by his son, Alex
6Edwards; his sister, Judy Rich; his nieces, Nancianne (Mark)
7Knipfer and Sheri (Douglas) Iwanicki; his great-nieces, Julia
8Knipfer, Abby Knipfer, and Madi Iwanicki; his great-nephew,
9Gabe Iwanicki; and his uncle, Kenneth Hashman; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Frank E. Edwards and extend our sincere condolences to his
13family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Frank Edwards as an expression of
17our deepest sympathy.
