SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Frank E. Edwards of Springfield, who passed away along with his wife on January 28, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Frank Edwards was born in Springfield to Francis and Berniece M. (Hashman) Edwards on September 16, 1950; he graduated from Glenwood High School in 1968; he served in the Illinois National Guard from 1969 to 1975; he received his teaching degree from Eastern Illinois University in 1974; he married Cinda J. Janssen on January 15, 1983; he was a lifelong Springfield resident; and

WHEREAS, Frank Edwards began his career at the Springfield Fire Department in 1977 and retired in 2002, spending his final 19 months serving as chief; he was elected and proudly served as the Ward 1 Alderman for the City of Springfield from 2003 to 2015; he also served as interim-mayor from December 2010 to April 2011; alongside his wife, he owned and operated Springfield Auto Body and Towing from 2005 onwards; and

WHEREAS, Frank Edwards was a longtime member of the Sangamon County Republicans and Island Bay Yacht Club; he enjoyed flying and was a commercial pilot and a pilot instructor; he also enjoyed boating, traveling, and spending time with his family and their beloved doodle, Lily, as well as their rescue dog, Nicky; and

WHEREAS, Frank Edwards was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Melvin Rich; and

WHEREAS, Frank Edwards is survived by his son, Alex Edwards; his sister, Judy Rich; his nieces, Nancianne (Mark) Knipfer and Sheri (Douglas) Iwanicki; his great-nieces, Julia Knipfer, Abby Knipfer, and Madi Iwanicki; his great-nephew, Gabe Iwanicki; and his uncle, Kenneth Hashman; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Frank E. Edwards and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Frank Edwards as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
