SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, State Senator Larry Bomke has represented the citizens of the 50th district with distinction in the General Assembly for 18 years; and

WHEREAS, Senator Bomke has served with honor in the Illinois Senate since 1995; and

WHEREAS, Senator Bomke's priorities have always been those of the people he represents; and

WHEREAS, Senator Bomke was instrumental in the creation and growth of the Springfield Medical District; and

WHEREAS, Senator Bomke has supported laws protecting the citizens of Illinois, including legislation that cracks down on sex offenders and protects the rights of victims of sex crimes; and

WHEREAS, Senator Bomke has most recently served as Republican Spokesman for the Senate Transportation Committee, helping to guide public policy that impacted transportation by road, rail, waterway, and air; and

WHEREAS, Senator Bomke has worked to honor Illinois' Veterans and their families through his sponsorship of legislation to create license plates that recognize family members killed in the line of duty; and

WHEREAS, Senator Bomke has always recognized the need to balance the best interests of the public and the conflicting views of all parties, and has always been willing to reach across the aisle to find common ground to enhance the lives of the people of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Senator Bomke once appeared on the national news program Hannity and Colmes; and

WHEREAS, Senator Bomke was voted "Best Politician" by the readers of the State Journal-Register from 2008 through 2011; and

WHEREAS, Senator Bomke was chosen "Best Legislator" in the Illinois Times "Best of Springfield" awards 2004-2012; and

WHEREAS, Senator Bomke has always made time to hear the concerns and questions of any constituent who walked through his door; and

WHEREAS, Senator Bomke was once featured on the Paul Harvey show for mowing an elderly constituent's lawn; and

WHEREAS, Senator Bomke is a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church; and

WHEREAS, Senator Bomke and his wife, Sally Jo, have been married for over 30 years, and are the proud parents of 2 children, Natalie and Wulf; and

WHEREAS, In his 18 years as a lawmaker, Senator Bomke has represented his constituents with determination and class, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues on both sides of the aisle; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Senator Bomke on his retirement from the Illinois General Assembly after 18 years of honorable service; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this and resolution be presented to Senator Bomke with our friendship, our gratitude for his hard work, and our best wishes for his future endeavors.
