 1        AN ACT in relation to vehicles.

 2        Be it enacted by the People of  the  State  of  Illinois,
 3    represented in the General Assembly:

 4        Section  5.   The  Illinois  Vehicle  Code  is amended by
 5    changing Section 3-606.1 as follows:

 6        (625 ILCS 5/3-606.1) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 3-606.1)
 7        Sec. 3-606.1.  Retired members of the  General  Assembly.
 8    Upon  receipt  of  a  request  from  a  retired member of the
 9    General Assembly, accompanied by the appropriate  application
10    and  fee,  the  Secretary  of  State  shall issue to the such
11    retired  member  plates  bearing   appropriate   wording   or
12    abbreviations  indicating that the holder is a retired member
13    of the General Assembly.  Such plates may be issued for  a  2
14    year  period  beginning January 1st of each odd-numbered year
15    and ending December  31st  of  the  subsequent  even-numbered
16    year.
17        "Retired  member" means any individual who (a) has served
18    as a member of the General Assembly for a minimum of 6 years,
19    or (b) is 62 or older, has served as a member of the  General
20    Assembly  for  a minimum of 4 years, and retired prior to the
21    convening of the 83rd General Assembly.
22        The fees and  procedures  relating  to  such  plates  for
23    retired  members of the General Assembly shall be the same as
24    the fees and procedures  applicable  to  personalized  plates
25    issued under this Code.
