 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives congratulate Ed Munday as he retires from his
 4    position as news director for WKAN in Kankakee after 27 years
 5    of service; and

 6        WHEREAS,  Mr.  Munday  started his work day at 4:30 every
 7    morning before mayors met businessmen  and  other  newsmakers
 8    opened  their  doors;  he  would  be visiting city and county
 9    police, picking up the pieces of what  transpired  the  night
10    before; and

11        WHEREAS,  Mr.  Munday  started out as a  DJ and worked at
12    several stations while attending Kent  State  University  for
13    two  years;  he  worked  there  from 1965 to 1967 when he was
14    drafted into the army; he served in Germany,  where  he  also
15    worked part-time in radio; and

16        WHEREAS,  After  returning  home  to Kankakee, he went to
17    work for the local cable television  news  service;  he  then
18    relocated  to  Bristol,  Virginia to anchor a TV newscast and
19    produce newscasts for two years; and in 1975, he accepted the
20    invitation to become the news director of WKAN  and  returned
21    to Kankakee; and

22        WHEREAS, Mr. Munday took early retirement, but he will be
23    pitching  in part time until his replacement is ready; he had
24    many faithful listeners and wrote a  farewell  message  which
25    read  in  part,  "I  have  had  the opportunity over the past
26    two-plus decades to meet  governors,  senators,  congressmen,
27    city  and  county officials, presidents of the United States,
28    famous personalities  and-most  enjoyable  of  all,  many  of
29    you."; therefore, be it

30        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
31    NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS,  that

 1    we  congratulate Ed Munday as he retires from his position as
 2    news director for WKAN and wish him good health and happiness
 3    in all of his future endeavors; and be it further

 4        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
 5    presented  to  Ed  Munday as an expression of our respect and
 6    esteem.
