SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
70 ILCS 1505/26.10-12 new
70 ILCS 1810/7.7 new

    Amends the Chicago Park District Act and the Illinois International Port District Act. Requires the transfer of a specified parcel of land from the Illinois International Port District to the Chicago Park District for recreational and conservation purposes (40 acres on the eastern shore of Lake Calumet). Provides that the Chicago Park District and the Illinois International Port District may, by mutual agreement, determine the terms and conditions of the property transfer. Requires that the property transfer occur as soon as possible after the effective date of the amendatory Act. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning local government.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Chicago Park District Act is amended by
5 adding Section 26.10-12 as follows:
 
6     (70 ILCS 1505/26.10-12 new)
7     Sec. 26.10-12. District enlarged. The Chicago Park
8 District shall have the power to accept the following described
9 parcel of land from the Illinois International Port District
10 (IIPD) for public recreational and conservation purposes:
11         Approximately 40 acres of land on the eastern shore of
12     Lake Calumet that are not used by the IIPD for port or
13     maritime activities. The eastern shore of Lake Calumet
14     includes the only pier in Lake Calumet that is completely
15     devoid of industrial development. The eastern shore of Lake
16     Calumet is identified and defined in the Calumet Area Land
17     Use Plan adopted by the Chicago Plan Commission.
18     The Chicago Park District and the Illinois International
19 Port District may, by mutual agreement, determine the terms and
20 conditions of the property transfer. However, the transfer must
21 occur as soon as possible after the effective date of this
22 amendatory Act of the 96th General Assembly.

1     Section 10. The Illinois International Port District Act is
2 amended by adding Section 7.7 as follows:
 
3     (70 ILCS 1810/7.7 new)
4     Sec. 7.7. Transfer of property to the Chicago Park
5 District. The Illinois International Port District (IIPD) is
6 authorized and directed to transfer to the Chicago Park
7 District the following described parcel of land for public
8 recreational and conservation purposes:
9         Approximately 40 acres of land on the eastern shore of
10     Lake Calumet that are not used by the IIPD for port or
11     maritime activities. The eastern shore of Lake Calumet
12     includes the only pier in Lake Calumet that is completely
13     devoid of industrial development. The eastern shore of Lake
14     Calumet is identified and defined in the Calumet Area Land
15     Use Plan adopted by the Chicago Plan Commission.
16     The District and the Chicago Park District may, by mutual
17 agreement, determine the terms and conditions of the property
18 transfer. However, the transfer must occur as soon as possible
19 after the effective date of this amendatory Act of the 96th
20 General Assembly.
 
21     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
22 becoming law.
