SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Larry Nedrow was born on December 13, 1924, in Oregon, Illinois; he attended school in a one-room school house in Oregon for grades 1 through 8; he then attended Oregon High School; and

WHEREAS, In 1944, Larry Nedrow was drafted into the United States Army; he then volunteered for the U.S. Army Air Corps, where he was assigned to the Army Airways Communication System and was stationed on Canton Island in the Pacific and Hickam Field in Hawaii; he also served as a civilian employee of the Army Signal Corps as a Message Center Officer during the winter of 1946-1947; he returned to Aurora in 1947; and

WHEREAS, In 1949, Larry Nedrow entered the painting trade; he worked for numerous painting contractors before founding Larry Nedrow Decorating in 1956; he owned the business until his retirement in 1992; and

WHEREAS, Larry Nedrow was very active in the painting industry and was adept at labor relations; in 1958, he founded the Aurora Painting Contractors Association; in that same year, he was instrumental in negotiating a State-wide Welfare Plan; these entities stayed in place until 1966, when the Northeast Illinois Chapter of the Painting and Decorating Contractors of America (PDCA) was established and the union reorganized into the Painter's District Council No. 30; Larry served as the first President of the new PDCA chapter; he was also very active with the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee, where he worked with other contractors and union officials to standardize the apprentice training program; and

WHEREAS, Larry Nedrow was one of the first trustees of the Northern Illinois Painting and Drywall Institute (NIPDI), an industry fund founded in 1976 to serve union painting and drywall taping contractors throughout northern Illinois; Larry served as an NIPDI trustee from December of 1978 to June of 1992; and

WHEREAS, Larry Nedrow married the love of his life, Doris, on August 9, 1957; together, they had 4 children, Jill, Jack, George, and Jodi; and

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to honor the life of Larry Nedrow, who passed away on April 4, 1996; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Larry Nedrow; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we designate the week of April 4, 2010 as Union Painting Contractors Week in the State of Illinois; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Larry Nedrow in appreciation of his dedication and leadership of the Northern Illinois Painting and Drywall Institute.
