HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Megan Cassidy of
4Grayslake and a member of Girl Scout Troop 40493 on attaining
5the Girl Scout Gold Award; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Megan is a freshman at Concordia University in
7Wisconsin; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The Gold Award is the highest rank that a young
9woman can earn within the Girl Scouts of America; Ms. Cassidy
10has been a member of the Girl Scouts since 1st grade; in 6th
11grade, she was given a Bronze Award for creating a workshop
12program called "Becoming a Teen" to help young girls with
13addressing life issues that arise in teenage years; and
 
14    WHEREAS, In 9th Grade, Ms. Cassidy attained the "Silver
15Award" for her research and creation of a presentation on the
16country of France that was given to local civic groups and
17other Girl Scout Troops; and
 
18    WHEREAS, For her final Gold Award project, Ms. Cassidy
19created an English as a Second Language (ESL) "Read to Me"
20program for the Avon Elementary School Media Center in Round
21Lake Beach, by recording and producing 75 "books on CDs" for

1the listening library; the goal of this effort is to provide
2extra exposure to the English language and assist children in
3moving from ESL (English as a Second Language) class to regular
4school classes; she also purchased 4 CD players, carrying
5cases, and extra books for the library; this project involved
6well over 250 man-hours of work by Ms. Cassidy and involved the
7assistance of a number of other volunteers; and
 
8    WHEREAS, At the request of the Girl Scouts of America, Ms.
9Cassidy wrote a reference paper explaining her Gold Award
10project so that it could be replicated by other Girl Scout
11Troops across the country; as a Girl Scout for 13 years, Ms.
12Cassidy's steady, persistent progress through the ranks to
13achieve this prestigious award demonstrates her determination
14to prepare herself for a meaningful, productive role in
15society; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
18we congratulate Megan Cassidy on this momentous occasion and
19wish her all the best in her future endeavors; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to Megan Cassidy as a symbol of our respect and
23esteem.
