HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Philip Siefken
4for receiving the 2012 Rural Physician of Excellence Award from
5the Illinois Rural Health Association; and
 
6    WHEREAS, One of the biggest healthcare challenges across
7our nation is the shortage of physicians who practice in rural
8settings; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Dr. Siefken earned his medical degree from the
10University of Illinois School of Medicine in Peoria in 1990,
11and completed his residency at Methodist Hospital of Indiana;
12he became board certified in pediatrics and internal medicine;
13and
 
14    WHEREAS, After practicing medicine in Indianapolis,
15Indiana, Dr. Siefken returned to his hometown of Greenville in
162006 to practice in a rural setting and joined Greenville
17Medical Associates and Greenville Regional Hospital; he is the
18only pediatrician in Bond County and the surrounding area,
19making him in a precious resource for everyone; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Rather than dreading the doctor's office,
21children in Bond County actually look forward to seeing Dr.

1Siefken because of his gentle manner and specially designed
2farm and jungle-themed examination rooms; and
 
3    WHEREAS In 2009, Dr. Siefken became Medical Staff President
4at Greenville Regional Hospital; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Siefken often makes house calls to insure that
6patients who cannot travel to his office do not go without
7care; he often volunteers in his community including at his
8alma mater, Greenville College, where he recently assisted in
9teaching a human cadaver anatomy course; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
12we commend Dr. Siefken for his selfless service to the
13community and the impact he has made on improving the health of
14those who live in rural areas; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to Dr. Siefken as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
