    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides for issuance of U.S. Air Force license plates, with eligibility requirements to be determined by the Secretary of State. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
5Section 3-699.14 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/3-699.14 new)
7    Sec. 3-699.14. U.S. Air Force license plates.
8    (a) In addition to any other special license plate, the
9Secretary, upon receipt of all applicable fees and applications
10made in the form prescribed by the Secretary of State, may
11issue U.S. Air Force license plates to residents of Illinois
12who meet eligibility requirements prescribed by the Secretary
13of State. The special U.S. Air Force plate issued under this
14Section shall be affixed only to passenger vehicles of the
15first division, motorcycles, and motor vehicles of the second
16division weighing not more than 8,000 pounds. Plates issued
17under this Section shall expire according to the staggered
18multi-year procedure established by Section 3-414.1 of this
19Code.
20    (b) The plates shall display the U.S. Air Force emblem. In
21all other respects, the design, color, and format of the plates
22shall be within the discretion of the Secretary of State. The
23Secretary may, in his or her discretion, allow the plates to be

1issued as vanity plates or personalized in accordance with
2Section 3-405.1 of this Code. The plates are not required to
3designate "Land of Lincoln", as prescribed in subsection (b) of
4Section 3-412 of this Code. The Secretary shall prescribe the
5eligibility requirements and, in his or her discretion, shall
6approve and prescribe stickers or decals as provided under
7Section 3-412.
 
8    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
9becoming law.
