HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Daniel J.
4Davis of Waukegan, who passed away on April 27, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Daniel Davis was born in Quanah, Texas on August
614, 1954 to Bertis and Mary Davis; he earned degrees from the
7Douglas MacArthur Academy of Freedom at Howard Paine University
8in Brownwood, Texas and the Johns Hopkins-Carey Business School
9in Baltimore, Maryland; in addition, he obtained the title of
10rabbi; he served in the United States Navy and Marine Corps at
11the close of the Vietnam War and in the Israeli Defense Forces
12during the First Lebanon War; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Daniel Davis was known as "Dancin' Dan" while
14working at KOLJ-FM out of Quanah, Texas; he helped keep Tarrant
15County, Texas safe as a sheriff's deputy, and later moved to
16Illinois to work as a private investigator; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Daniel Davis became passionate about the cause of
18medical marijuana, and, in 2012, became involved in the push
19for legalization; he worked with NORML Illinois and the
20Marijuana Policy Project and is credited by some with getting
21the pilot program passed; his proudest moment was being on-hand
22to watch Governor Quinn sign HB1 into law in August of 2013;

2    WHEREAS, Daniel Davis is survived by his wife of 23 years,
3Lorriedel Davis, and a host of friends; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6we mourn the passing of Daniel J. Davis, and extend our sincere
7condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
8him; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the family of Daniel Davis as an expression of our
11deepest sympathy.
