HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Illinois State
4Representative Kay Hatcher of Yorkville on her distinguished
5service to the people of the State of Illinois; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Representative Hatcher has been a member of the
7Illinois House of Representatives since 2009 and has served
8this body with honor and distinction; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Representative Hatcher began her career in public
10service in 1985 by winning election to the Oswego School Board,
11where she served until 1991; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Representative Hatcher was subsequently appointed
13to the Kendall County Board in 1991, winning election in her
14own right in 1992; and
 
15    WHEREAS, After retiring from the Kendall County Board in
161996, Representative Hatcher was re-elected to the Board in
172002; she also served as President of the Kendall County Forest
18Preserve District until 2008; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Representative Hatcher won a majority of the vote
20in a 4-way primary in March of 2008 for the open 50th

1Representative District seat, vacated by retiring State
2Representative Patricia Reid Lindner; she went on to win the
3General Election in November of 2008 serving portions of Kane,
4Kendall, and LaSalle Counties; and
 
5    WHEREAS, During the 98th General Assembly, Representative
6Hatcher served as Republican Spokesperson on the Human
7Services, Transportation: Vehicles and Safety, and Tourism &
8Conventions Committees; she also served on the
9Appropriations-General Services, Public Utilities, Veterans'
10Affairs, Health Care Availability and Accessibility,
11Transportation: License Plates, and Transportation: Signs
12Committees; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Representative Hatcher has been a trailblazer
14among and leader of Illinois Republican women; she was an
15Illinois Lincoln Series Fellow with the Class of 1999, State
16President of the Illinois Federation of Republican Women from
172004 to 2005, a former board member of the National Federation
18of Republican Women, Governor of the Illinois Lincoln Series
19Board from 2006 to 2008, and Precinct Committeewoman in Kendall
20Township from 1996 to 2008; and
 
21    WHEREAS, A lifelong Illinois resident, Representative
22Hatcher has also long managed her family's farm in central
23Illinois; and

1    WHEREAS, Representative Hatcher received corporate
2communications training at Boston College's Carroll School of
3Management; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Representative Hatcher is married to Steve
5Hatcher, a United States Army veteran and former executive
6director of the Aurora Chamber of Commerce and Oswego Chamber
7of Commerce; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Representative Hatcher and her husband are the
9proud parents of 4 children, Beth, Bonnie, Jennifer, and Curt;
10together, they have welcomed 6 beautiful grandchildren; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Representative Hatcher has been noted for leading
12the effort to respect fallen United States service members and
13their families by sponsoring and passing a new law in 2011 to
14expand Illinois' "Let Them Rest in Peace Act", strengthening
15restrictions on protests at military funerals to protect the
16privacy of grieving families; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Representative Hatcher has made immeasurable
18contributions to the public good through her extensive civic
19and volunteer involvement, including past service as Greater
20Aurora Chamber of Commerce Government Relations Chair,
21membership on the River Valley Workforce Investment Board, the

1Aurora Area Convention and Visitor's Bureau Board,
2Conservation Foundation Leadership Board, the Valley
3Industrial Association Board, the Naperville Development
4Partnership Board, the Oak Brook Association of Commerce and
5Industry Board, the United Way of Aurora Board, the St. Charles
6United Way Board, the Three Fires Boy Scout Board, the
7Paramount Arts Council Endowment Board, the Court Appointed
8Special Advocate Board, the DuPage Girl Scout Board, the Fox
9Valley Symphony Board, the Community Counseling Board, and the
10Family Counseling Board, among many others; she was also
11President of the Boulder Hill Civic Association, President of
12the Kendall County Crime Stoppers, a member and Legislative
13Chairman of the Naperville Chamber of Commerce Board, President
14of the DuKane Valley Council Board, and Rotary President; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Representative Hatcher enjoyed a successful
16career in the private sector as Community Affairs Director for
17Illinois Bell in the non-profit sector as Senior Marketing
18Director for Senior Services Associates, Inc.; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Representative Hatcher has been honored by
20numerous organizations in recognition of her outstanding
21service in the General Assembly, including the Illinois Farm
22Bureau ACTIVATOR Friend of Agriculture Award and Legislator of
23the Year from the Metro West Council of Government, among
24others; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3we congratulate Representative Kay Hatcher on her retirement
4from the General Assembly and wish her all the best in her
5future endeavors; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to Representative Hatcher as an expression of our
8esteem and respect for our colleague and friend.
