SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Cora Lee Jordan of Chicago, who passed
4away on October 31, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Cora Jordan was born on April 21, 1932 in Macon,
6Mississippi to Walter Lee and Lottie Ree; she was raised in
7West Point, Mississippi and attended school there; she married
8Dr. Jesse D. Jordan at the King David Missionary Baptist Church
9in 1957 in East St. Louis; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Cora Jordan was an active member of the King David
11Missionary Baptist Church, serving in the choir, the Missionary
12Society, the Social Committee, and with other church
13auxiliaries; she became a member of the High Mountain
14Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago in November 1965 when she
15and her husband relocated there; in addition to being the First
16Lady of the Church, she was an active participant on many
17auxiliaries, such as the Missionary Society, the Nurses Board,
18the Red Circle, as Director of Vacation Bible School, and on
19the Kitchen Committee; she eventually joined Zion Travelers
20Missionary Baptist Church in South Holland, where she served on
21the Mother's Board; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Cora Jordan was preceded in death by her parents;

1her husband, Dr. Jesse D. Jordan; and her sons, David, Jesse
2T., Walter, Terry, and Ralph; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Cora Jordan is survived by her daughters, Ada
4(Joseph), Angenita (Andre), Gracie (Desmond), Vivian, and Eve;
5her sons, Jerry and Andrew; her 21 grandchildren; her 25
6great-grandchildren; her great-great-granddaughter; and a host
7of family, friends, and spiritual family; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Cora Lee Jordan, and extend our sincere condolences to her
11family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Cora Jordan as an expression of our
15deepest sympathy.
