HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of James N.
4Rodgers of Auburn, who passed away on March 7, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, James Rodgers was born on May 28, 1926 in
6Franklin; his parents were William Almer Rodgers and Henrietta
7(nee Seymour) Rodgers; he married Carolyn Medd on July 23, 1957
8in Springfield; and
 
9    WHEREAS, James Rodgers answered the call of his nation by
10joining the United States Marine Corps following the death of
11his brother, William A. Rodgers, Jr., who was killed on
12November 2, 1943 in Bouganville, Solomon Islands while serving
13with the Marine Corps, and his older sister, Grace Rodgers, who
14served in the United States Coast Guard (SPARS); he served as a
15sharpshooter with the 6th Marine Division; he was severely
16wounded in combat during the Battle of Okinawa, codenamed
17Operation Iceberg, on April 1, 1945, as his unit seized the
18strategically vital Yontan Airfield; he was awarded the Purple
19Heart, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, and the World War II
20Victory Medal for his service; and
 
21    WHEREAS, James Rodgers was active in the community life of
22Auburn; he was a volunteer at the Auburn Cemetery, where he

1helped with mowing and maintenance; he was also a member of the
2Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auburn
3Post #8157; and
 
4    WHEREAS, James Rodgers was preceded in death by his wife,
5Carolyn; his brothers, William A. Rodgers and George Rodgers;
6and a sister, Grace Rodgers; and
 
7    WHEREAS, James Rodgers is survived by 6 nieces, Mary
8Kirgan, Janice Ping Roth, Bonnie Sandidge, Pam Schiermeier,
9Ella Kay Shriner, and Kathy Rodgers; 3 nephews, Jim Boston,
10Randy Medd, and Bobby Medd; and a sister-in-law, Jean Rodgers;
11therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
14mourn the passing of James N. Rodgers and extend our sincere
15condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
16him; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of James Rodgers as an expression of
19our deepest sympathy.
