| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The Illinois House of Representatives is | ||||||
| 3 | delighted to honor Michael Zahn on the occasion of his | ||||||
| 4 | retirement as Business Manager of the International Union of | ||||||
| 5 | Operating Engineers Local 965; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Mike Zahn followed in the footsteps of his father | ||||||
| 7 | and joined Local 965 in 1974; he spent nearly 30 years with | ||||||
| 8 | Local 965, eventually becoming the business manager for the | ||||||
| 9 | union; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Local 965 serves the operating engineers of 15 | ||||||
| 11 | counties in central Illinois, including Adams, Brown, Cass, | ||||||
| 12 | Christian, De Witt, Logan, Macon, Menard, Morgan, Piatt, Pike, | ||||||
| 13 | Sangamon, Schuyler, Scott, and Shelby Counties; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Mike Zahn has been a dedicated public servant for | ||||||
| 15 | his entire career, serving as Chairman of the Illinois State | ||||||
| 16 | Council and a member of the Greater Springfield Chamber of | ||||||
| 17 | Commerce Diversity Development Council; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Mike Zahn is active in the Springfield-based Faith | ||||||
| 19 | Coalition for the Common Good, whose mission is to unite | ||||||
| 20 | congregations with other community organizations, identify | ||||||
| 21 | common issues of concern in central Illinois, educate | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | themselves and others about those issues, and work together for | ||||||
| 2 | systemic change that will advance their shared values; and
| ||||||
| 3 | WHEREAS, Mike Zahn helped in the creation of Rochester | ||||||
| 4 | Community Park in Rochester and organized the operating | ||||||
| 5 | engineers who volunteered their time for all the site work at | ||||||
| 6 | Southwind Park in Springfield; and | ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Mike Zahn has been a strong advocate for improving | ||||||
| 8 | infrastructure in the State of Illinois, often traveling to | ||||||
| 9 | Washington, D.C. to meet with lawmakers to discuss the | ||||||
| 10 | importance of infrastructure to Illinois' economy; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Mike Zahn's leadership in Local 965 is widely | ||||||
| 12 | respected across both sides of the political aisle and has been | ||||||
| 13 | known to work with Republicans and Democrats on the issues that | ||||||
| 14 | matter most to his union; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 16 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 17 | congratulate Michael Zahn for all his years of service to the | ||||||
| 18 | people of central Illinois and wish him a wonderful retirement; | ||||||
| 19 | and be it further

| 20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 21 | presented to Mike Zahn as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
