HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The United States of America sent its sons and
3daughters to the Republic of Vietnam in Southeast Asia over 50
4years ago; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The State of Illinois has furnished assistance to
6veterans who have served in the Vietnam War, as well as other
7veterans who served in the Armed Forces but were not sent to
8the front lines; and
 
9    WHEREAS, One of the most painful chapters in our nation's
10history is the Vietnam War, most particularly in how we treated
11our troops, who were often blamed for a war that they did not
12start; and
 
13    WHEREAS, In times of relative harmony, we tend to take for
14granted the endowments earned and given by our Vietnam
15veterans; and
 
16    WHEREAS, We aspire to enthusiastically take part in such
17examples of patriotism such as flying the flag, public-spirited
18get-togethers, and shaking the hands of Vietnam veterans and
19saying "Welcome Home"; therefore, be it

1NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
2welcome our Vietnam veterans home at the 50th Commemoration of
3the Vietnam War at the Illinois Veterans Home in Manteno on
4July 9, 2016 and thank and honor veterans of the Vietnam War,
5including personnel who were held as prisoners of war, listed
6as missing in action, and the families of these veterans, for
7their service and sacrifice on behalf of the State of Illinois.
