| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Gretta Viola (Spivey) Whitted, a lifelong | 4 | | resident of Joliet, who passed away on November 22, 2016; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Gretta Whitted was born in Joliet to Willie and | 6 | | Ruby Spivey on September 16, 1937; she was educated in the | 7 | | Joliet Public Schools and, upon high school graduation, | 8 | | attended The Art Institute of Chicago; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Gretta Whitted worked at APSA and then the City of | 10 | | Joliet, from where she retired; and | 11 | | WHEREAS, Gretta Whitted was a founder of the Joliet Chapter | 12 | | of National Hook-Up of Black Women, Inc.; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Gretta Whitted was a well-versed traveler, | 14 | | painter, photographer, and gardener; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Gretta Whitted was preceded in death by her | 16 | | grandparents, Odie and Sally Mitchell, and Rev. J.P. and Minnie | 17 | | Spivey; her parents, Willie and Ruby Spivey; her aunts, Viola | 18 | | Hatten, and Sadie Spivey; her uncles, Warren Mitchell, J.C. | 19 | | Mitchell, and Rhea Spivey; and her cousins, Raymond Spivey, | 20 | | Jesse Cecil Mitchell, Eddie Dorris, Judy Roberts, Debra Ray, |

| 2 | | WHEREAS, Gretta Whitted is survived by her loving and | 3 | | devoted husband of 58 years, Curtis Whitted; her only child, | 4 | | Robin Michelle Whitted; her brother, William "Billy" (Shirley) | 5 | | Spivey; her sisters, Jacqueline "Jackie" (Clarence Jr.) | 6 | | Westbrooks, and Marie Spivey; her brother and sisters-in-law, | 7 | | James Whitted, Barbara Williams, and Betty Callett; her | 8 | | godchildren, Tara R. Spivey, and Brandon Stevens; her aunt, | 9 | | Belle Mitchell; her cousins, Ara Jean Sams, Francine Stevens, | 10 | | Donald Dennison, Michael Dennison, Diane Thomas, Larry Spivey, | 11 | | Brian Spivey, Beatrice Spivey, and Lynette Spivey; and numerous | 12 | | nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
| 13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 14 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her | 15 | | family and friends, mourn the passing of Gretta Viola Whitted, | 16 | | and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and | 17 | | all who knew and loved her; and be it further
| 18 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 19 | | presented to the family of Gretta Whitted as an expression of | 20 | | our deepest sympathy.
