HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to recognize the valiant work of those
4associated with the Boy Scouts of America Iroquois Trail
5district; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Iroquois Trail district represents 32
7Scouting troops, over 1,000 Scouts, and 350 adult members and
8volunteers; it has brought the rich tradition of Scouting and
9community service to the heart of Chicago; it represents a
10collection of diverse neighborhoods in the City of Chicago,
11including, Archer Heights, Back of the Yards, Bridgeport,
12Brighton Park, Canaryville, Cicero, Clearing, Ford City, Gage
13Park, Little Village, Lower West Side, Marshall Square,
14McKinley Park, Midway, New City, Pilsen, South Lawndale, and
15West Elsdon; and
 
16    WHEREAS, These neighborhoods are some of the most
17economically depressed areas in Chicago and offer very few
18community-based youth programs; the Iroquois Trail district
19leadership has spearheaded outreach into these areas; their
20commitment and drive to help introduce children and their
21families to the values of Scouting in these communities is
22exemplary in following the Scout Oath; and

1    WHEREAS, The Scouts of the Iroquois Trail district should
2be commended for their tireless work incorporating the
3underprivileged youth in the City of Chicago into their
4programs; regardless of gender, ethnicity, skin color, and or
5sexual orientation, they push for inclusiveness, providing
6opportunities for those who normally would not have any; their
7commitment to help guide children to make ethical and moral
8choices, not just as Scouts but as individuals, should be
9highlighted; and
 
10    WHEREAS, As a result of the strong leadership, a number of
11successes occurred for the Iroquois Trail district Scouts in
122016; over 300 new Scouts joined; 13 Scouts reached the highest
13rank achievable, Eagle Scout; the Scouts collectively
14volunteered over 5,000 hours of service in their communities
15and continued in participating in Honor Flights to Washington,
16D.C. with local veterans; and they collected the most food
17overall in the past year for the Scouting for Food drive;
18therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
20HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
21recognize the valiant work of those associated with the Boy
22Scouts of America Iroquois Trail district; and be it further
 
23    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be

2symbol of our respect and esteem.
