1 HOUSE RESOLUTION

2     WHEREAS, Governor Bruce Rauner is responsible for filling
3 the three vacancies that occurred on the University of Illinois
4 Board of Trustees as members cycled off in the fall of 2016;
5 and

6     WHEREAS, Governor Rauner has filled two of the three
7 vacancies with one Democrat and one Republican and has the
8 opportunity to appoint one more Democrat; and

9     WHEREAS, The University of Illinois Board of Trustees
10 oversees three campuses, Urbana-Champaign, Chicago, and
11 Springfield; these campuses attract a diverse group of students
12 from all over the world; and

13     WHEREAS, The University of Illinois Board of Trustees
14 currently has only one woman on the board, and no women of
15 color; therefore, be it

16     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
17 HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
18 strongly urge Governor Bruce Rauner to make appointments that
19 honor diversity and reflect the gender and racial makeup of our
20 State as he contemplates who he will select to fill vacant
21 positions on the University of Illinois Board of Trustees; and

2     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3 delivered to Governor Rauner.
