HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to thank Dr. Ann Rondeau for her service
4to the students, faculty, and staff at the College of DuPage
5and wish her well as she assumes a new position as the
6President of the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey,
7California; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Dr. Rondeau holds a B.A. from Eisenhower College
9in New York, an M.A. from Georgetown University in Washington,
10D.C., and an Ed.D. from the College of Education at Northern
11Illinois University, as well as an honorary Doctorate in Public
12Service from Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin and an
13Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from the Rosalind Franklin
14University of Medicine and Science; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Dr. Rondeau is an honorable veteran of the U.S.
16Navy and served her country with distinction for 38 years; she
17retired as a three-star admiral in 2012 and is the second woman
18to ever achieve that rank; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Dr. Rondeau is a Fortune 500 Most Powerful Women
20panelist and speaker; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Dr. Rondeau is a past president of the National

1Defense University, a consortium of five colleges and nine
2research centers in Washington, D.C.; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Dr. Rondeau's other previous positions include
4Deputy Commander of the U.S. Transportation Command in
5Illinois, Pentagon Director/Chief of Staff for the U.S. Navy
6Staff, Commander of the Navy Personnel Development Command in
7Virginia, Commander of the Naval Service Training Command at
8Great Lakes, Pacific Fleet Staff Chief of Staff in Hawaii, and
9Commanding Officer of Naval Support Activity in Tennessee; she
10served as a White House Fellow in 1985 in the Reagan
11administration; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Dr. Rondeau's dedication to service, education,
13community, and country was demonstrated through active
14membership on the Arizona State University Flag Officer
15Advisory Council, the National Museum of the American Sailor
16Foundation Board of Directors, the Naval Postgraduate School
17Board of Advisors, the Military Advisory Board, the Dwight D.
18Eisenhower Memorial Commission, the Chicago Regional Growth
19Corporation Board, the Choose DuPage Board of Directors, the
20Council for Higher Education Accreditation, and the Executive
21Board of the U.S. Navy Education for Sea Power Study; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Dr. Rondeau joined the College of DuPage (COD) in
23July of 2016 during a tumultuous time at the school; she was

1the sixth president in the history of COD and the first woman
2to hold the post; and
 
3    WHEREAS, The College of DuPage is regionally accredited by
4the Higher Learning Commission; serving an approximately
525,000 students each term, it is the largest public community
6college in the State of Illinois; it grants seven associate
7degrees and offers more than 170 career and technical
8certificates in over 50 areas of study; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Dr. Rondeau oversaw an annual operating budget of
10approximately $180 million and an annual revenue budget of
11close to $300 million; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Dr. Rondeau facilitated a comprehensive
13rebuilding of trust at COD as she navigated the school through
14multiple governance, financial, and personnel challenges; and
 
15    WHEREAS, During her tenure at COD, Dr. Rondeau took
16meaningful steps to restore internal and external confidence in
17the institution through dedication to individual and
18institutional integrity; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Dr. Rondeau fostered a culture that drove positive
20results by establishing and maintaining strong relationships
21based on collaboration and participatory governance; and

1    WHEREAS, Dr. Rondeau will complete her service to the COD
2at the end of 2018 and assume a new role as the president of the
3Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, where she
4will work toward transforming and modernizing education in the
5Navy and Marine Corps and bring a new emphasis on science,
6technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education; therefore,
7be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
9HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
10congratulate Dr. Ann Rondeau on a job well-done at College of
11DuPage and further congratulate her on her new position at the
12Naval Postgraduate School; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to Dr. Rondeau as an expression of our esteem and
15respect.
