AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 1607

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 1607 by deleting
3line 18 on page 1 through line 3 on page 2; and
 
4on page 2, by inserting immediately below line 13 the
5following:
6    "(c-5) Effective January 1, 2018, each prescriber
7possessing an Illinois controlled substances license shall
8register with the prescription monitoring program. Each
9prescriber or his or her designee shall also document an
10attempt to access patient information in the prescription
11monitoring program to assess patient access to controlled
12substances when providing an initial prescription for Schedule
13II narcotics such as opioids, except for prescriptions for
14oncology treatment or palliative care, or a 7-day or less
15supply provided by a hospital emergency department when
16treating an acute, traumatic medical condition. This attempt to
17access shall be documented in the patient's medical record. The

1hospital shall facilitate the designation of a prescriber's
2designee for the purpose of accessing the prescription
3monitoring program for services provided at the hospital."; and
 
4on page 7, by inserting immediately below line 24 the
5following:
 
6    "Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect on
7January 1, 2018.".
