AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 2777

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 2777 by replacing
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4    "Section 5. The Illinois Controlled Substances Act is
5amended by adding Section 315.5 as follows:
 
6    (720 ILCS 570/315.5 new)
7    Sec. 315.5. Opioid education for prescribers. Every
8prescriber who is required under this Act to be registered to
9prescribe controlled substances shall, during the pre-renewal
10period, complete 3 hours of continuing education in safe opioid
11prescribing practices, which must include the following
12subjects: Illinois and federal requirements for prescribing
13controlled substances; appropriate prescribing; pain
14management; prevention, screening, and signs of abuse and
15addiction; and responses to abuse and addiction.
16Notwithstanding anything that may appear in any individual

1licensing Act or administrative rule, a prescriber may count
2these 3 hours toward the total continuing education hours
3required for renewal of professional licensure if the course is
4presented by an approved continuing education provider. The
5Department of Financial and Professional Regulation may adopt
6rules for the administration of this Section.
 
7    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect January
81, 2019.".
