SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
ILCON Art. IV, Sec. 2.5 new

    Proposes to amend the Legislature Article of the Illinois Constitution. Provides that a person may not be elected to the office of State Senator or State Representative, or a combination of those offices, for terms totalling more than ten years. Provides that no person may be elected or appointed as a State Senator or State Representative if, upon completion of that term of office, he or she will have been a member of the General Assembly for more than ten years. Provides that service before the second Wednesday in January of 2021 shall not be considered in the calculation of a person's service. Effective upon being declared adopted.

3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
4HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
5SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to the
6electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the general
7election next occurring at least 6 months after the adoption of
8this resolution a proposition to add Section 2.5 to Article IV
9of the Illinois Constitution as follows:

THE LEGISLATURE

12    (ILCON Art. IV, Sec. 2.5 new)
13SECTION 2.5. TERM LIMITS
14    A person may not be elected to the office of State Senator
15or State Representative, or a combination of those offices, for
16terms totalling more than ten years. No person may be elected
17or appointed as a State Senator or State Representative if,
18upon completion of that term of office, he or she will have
19been a member of the General Assembly for more than ten years.
20Service before the second Wednesday in January of 2021 shall
21not be considered in the calculation of a person's service.
