HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Lynette
4Ann Harrell-Flowers of Chicago, who passed away on February 23,
52020; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Lynette Harrell-Flowers was born in Chicago to
7Vernon and Eileen Harrell on August 18, 1965; she attended
8Chicago Public Schools and Stagg Grammar School; she graduated
9from Simeon Vocational High School; she married Louis S.
10Flowers on April 23, 1994, and she became the proud stepmother
11to LaTrice, Louis, Sandra, and Delisa; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Lynette Harrell-Flowers worked as an
13administrative assistant for the Cook County State's
14Attorney's office in the Child Support Division from July 1985
15until her retirement in June 2016; and
 
16    WHEREAS, A breast cancer survivor, Lynette Harrell-Flowers
17became an advocate, supporting initiatives around breast
18cancer awareness and research for a cure; she participated in
19and supported a variety of walks, marches, and fundraisers;
20through this journey, she formed a lifetime bond with fellow
21survivors who became affectionately known as "The
22Butterflies"; and

1    WHEREAS, Lynette Harrell-Flowers committed to her faith at
2an early age and became a member of Zion Hill Missionary
3Baptist Church; she became an active member of Salem Baptist
4Church in 1994; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lynette Harrell-Flowers enjoyed spending time
6with her family, especially her grandchildren, and with her
7dogs, CoCo and Sonny; she also enjoyed gardening, reading,
8traveling, watching movies, and being the first lady of
9Chi-Town Exotic Corvette Club; she will forever be known for
10her beautiful spirit, bright smile, soft-spoken words, and kind
11personality; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Lynette Harrell-Flowers was preceded in death by
13her parents; her sister, Vernona Harrell; her brothers, Kenneth
14Harrell and Vernon Harrell; and her brothers-in-law, Thomas
15Hiner, Willie Flowers, and Dan Coutee; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Lynette Harrell-Flowers is survived by her
17husband, Louis Flowers; her daughters, LaTrice Phillips,
18Sandra (Terrance) Roberts, and Delisa Singleton; her son, Louis
19(Ebony) Jefferies; her granddaughters, Nadja, Skyla, Anya,
20Mia, Nia, Abrianna, Trinity, Ebony, and Terryn; her grandson,
21Jabari; her sister, Valerie Gordon; her brother, David
22(Denitra) Harrell; her mother-in-law, Lula Flowers; her uncle,

1Earnest Chance; her sisters-in-law, State Rep. Mary E. Flowers,
2Shirley Hiner, Betty (Wayne) Phillips, and Kimberly Flowers;
3her brother-in-law, Edward Flowers; her nieces, nephews, and a
4host of relatives; her extended family, Deloris (James) Paige,
5Devin Versher, Cheryl McCallister, Theresa Emmons, Marie
6(Larry), and Theresa; her best friend, Carolyn Drummond; The
7Butterflies; the Corvette Clubs; and her numerous friends;
8therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
10HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11we mourn the passing of Lynette Ann Harrell-Flowers and extend
12our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who
13knew and loved her; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Lynette Harrell-Flowers as an
16expression of our deepest sympathy.
