HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, thousands of
3nurses, doctors, first responders, public utility workers, and
4other workers have continued performing duties that are
5essential to the health, safety, and well-being of all; and
 
6    WHEREAS, In performing their duties, these brave men and
7women are putting the needs of others first, facing a
8heightened risk exposure to the virus so that life-sustaining
9services continue without interruption; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Doctors, nurses, and hospital support staff
11throughout Illinois are on the frontlines of the battle against
12COVID-19, working to diagnose, treat, and prevent the spread of
13the virus while also continuing to provide the lifesaving care
14needed on a daily basis; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Hundreds of retired doctors and nurses have
16already volunteered to return to work so hospitals can manage
17the surge of patients in need; and
 
18    WHEREAS, First responders, police officers, fire fighters,
19emergency medical technicians, and our National Guard and
20military members continue in their efforts to protect and serve
21our communities, often taking on added responsibilities amid

1this emergency; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Many men and women of organized labor have stayed
3on the job to ensure a number of critical services continue to
4be delivered, and their local union chapters have continued
5working to provide resources for union families; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Grocery store and pharmacy clerks, fast food and
7restaurant workers, public transit workers, gas station
8attendants, and all those who keep the supply chain of food,
9medicine, and other essentials running have had to adjust
10rapidly to an often uncertain working environment while
11continuing to supply our communities with our most essential
12needs; and
 
13    WHEREAS, By serving others in the face of crisis, these
14individuals embody the spirit of community, and their efforts
15stand as a beacon of hope in uncertain times; and
 
16    WHEREAS, The risks faced by those who continue to provide
17these essential services have resulted in sickness and in death
18for many; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
20HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
21all who remain safe and healthy owe a debt of gratitude to

1those whose sacrifice makes that health and safety possible;
2and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That we mourn the loss of those who have died in
4the line of duty as a result of COVID-19; and be it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That we offer our deepest appreciation and
6heartfelt support for the medical professionals, first
7responders, and all essential workers who remain on the job to
8keep our communities and our State strong.
