SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/3-609.2 new

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Allows the Secretary of State to issue Law Enforcement Medal of Honor license plates. Provides that the plates shall display the Law Enforcement Medal of Honor.

1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
5Section 3-609.2 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/3-609.2 new)
7    Sec. 3-609.2. Law Enforcement Medal of Honor license
8plates.
9    (a) In addition to any other special license plate, the
10Secretary, upon receipt of all applicable fees and applications
11made in the form prescribed by the Secretary, may issue Law
12Enforcement Medal of Honor license plates to residents of this
13State who meet eligibility requirements prescribed by the
14Secretary. The special Law Enforcement Medal of Honor plate
15issued under this Section shall be affixed only to passenger
16vehicles of the first division, motorcycles, and motor vehicles
17of the second division weighing not more than 8,000 pounds.
18Plates issued under this Section shall expire according to the
19staggered multi-year procedure established by Section 3-414.1.
20    (b) The plates shall display the Law Enforcement Medal of
21Honor. In all other respects, the design, color, and format of
22the plates shall be within the discretion of the Secretary. The
23Secretary may, in his or her discretion, allow the plates to be

1issued as vanity plates or personalized in accordance with
2Section 3-405.1. The plates are not required to designate "Land
3of Lincoln", as prescribed in subsection (b) of Section 3-412.
4The Secretary shall prescribe the eligibility requirements
5and, in his or her discretion, shall approve and prescribe
6stickers or decals as provided under Section 3-412.
