SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Joseph K. "Joe" West of Peoria, who passed away on April 21, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Joe West was born in Dwight to Francis J. and Grace E. (Meyer) West on June 18, 1934; he earned his Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Bradley University in Peoria in 1950 and married Bernadette Giehl in Metamora on April 18, 1959; and

WHEREAS, Joe West was employed for 41 years as a civil engineer with V. Jobst & Sons and then as a founding member of River City Construction; he retired in June of 1999; he was involved with TriCon, serving a term as president and on multiple construction boards and committees; and

WHEREAS, Joe West was a member of St. Philomena Catholic Church in Peoria, where he was devoted to perpetual adoration for several years and served on multiple committees in the church; and

WHEREAS, Joe West enjoyed traveling with his wife, spending time with family and friends, playing tennis, his grandsons' athletic and extra-curricular activities, spending Sundays at the Wedgwood Swim and Tennis Club, and tending to his garden; and

WHEREAS, Joe West was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Terrance West; and two infant children; and

WHEREAS, Joe West is survived by his wife, Bernadette; his children, Susan West, Randall (Bobbie) West, and Jennifer (Eric) Bertolet; his grandsons, Randall West, Adam West, Martin West, Matthew Bertolet, and Elijah Bertolet; and his sister, Ann (Dan Rosenthal) West; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Joseph K. "Joe" West and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Joe West as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
