SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the passing of Richard "Dick" W. Portrey of Hillside,
4who passed away on April 7, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dick Portrey was born to Joseph and Eva
6(Stansbarger) Nicholas in Horton, Kansas on October 2, 1924; he
7was a graduate of Hadley Technical High School in St. Louis;
8Dick married Rita Taets on December 18, 1947; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Dick Portrey entered the U.S. Navy and attended
10Naval school to become proficient in electronics and electrical
11systems; he served four years in WWII and two years in the
12Korean War; his tours included service in Africa, Italy,
13Sicily, and southern France; he achieved the rank of Chief
14Petty Officer by the time he left the service; he then worked
15for Alcoa for 32 years in maintenance and engineering; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Dick Portrey was an avid gun collector with an
17interest in Lugers and Berettas; he loaded his own ammunition
18and participated in competitive target shooting; he was active
19in the Postal League shooting club and also shot rifles,
20pistols, and archery at a club in Morrison; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Dick Portrey was preceded in death by his wife and

1his parents; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Dick Portrey is survived by his son, Michael
3(Shirley) Portrey; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
6Richard "Dick" W. Portrey and extend our sincere condolences to
7his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
8further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the family of Dick Portrey as an expression of our
11deepest sympathy.
