| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of John G. Harpst of Fisher, who passed away | 4 | | on May 4, 2020; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, John Harpst was born in Monroe, Wisconsin to John | 6 | | R. and Eileen (Shea) Harpst on September 8, 1941; he married | 7 | | Donna "Jeanie" Johnson on May 19, 1962; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, John Harpst worked for the Mahomet-Seymour school | 9 | | district as a custodian at several of the schools, the last of | 10 | | which was his favorite, Sangamon Elementary School; he retired | 11 | | from the district after 23 years; while at Sangamon, he was | 12 | | known as the chief "tooth puller" as many students would seek | 13 | | him out to pull their loose teeth; after his retirement, he and | 14 | | Jeanie would make a special visit by fire truck dressed as | 15 | | Santa and Mrs. Claus for the Christmas parties; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, John Harpst served the Mahomet community for 45 | 17 | | years with the Cornbelt Fire Protection District; he served the | 18 | | department in many capacities, including as assistant chief; | 19 | | and | 20 | | WHEREAS, John Harpst was a member of Our Lady of the Lake | 21 | | Catholic Church in Mahomet, where he was known for being their |

| 1 | | chief fish fryer at the Lenten fish dinners; and
| 2 | | WHEREAS, John Harpst was preceded in death by his parents; | 3 | | and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, John Harpst is survived by his wife, Jeanie; his | 5 | | children, Ronda (Steve) Sumner and Dan (Steph) Harpst; his | 6 | | grandchildren, Jordan (Lisa) Harpst, Garrett Harpst, Cameron | 7 | | Harpst, Rachel Sumner, and Carly Sumner; his siblings, Tom | 8 | | (Martha) Harpst and Tara (Ken) Nichols; his sister-in-law, | 9 | | Kathy Harpst; three nephews and their families; and several | 10 | | special cousins from Wisconsin; therefore, be it
