SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/3-405.2  from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 3-405.2

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that the Secretary of State shall not issue any license plate or digital license plate that has installed or attached thereto a global positioning system.

1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by
5changing Section 3-405.2 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/3-405.2)  (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 3-405.2)
7    Sec. 3-405.2. Improper plates.
8    (a) The Secretary of State shall refuse to issue any
9license plates bearing a combination of letters or numbers, or
10both, which creates a potential duplication or, in the opinion
11of the Secretary, (1) would substantially interfere with plate
12identification for law enforcement purposes, (2) is
13misleading, or (3) creates a connotation that is offensive to
14good taste and decency.
15    (b) The Secretary of State shall not issue any license
16plate or digital license plate that has installed or attached
17thereto a global positioning system.
18    (c) The Secretary may revoke any such plates described in
19subsection (a) or (b) issued previously. Any person who has
20his or her plates revoked under this Section may acquire at no
21charge new plates and any required stickers of the same
22category and for the same period of registration.
