HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Robert
4"Bobby" Lee Murray, who passed away on September 7, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bobby Murray was born to Johnnie and Sadie Murray
6in Memphis, Tennessee on April 7, 1945; his family relocated
7to Chicago, and he grew up in the Woodlawn Community; he
8graduated from Hyde Park Career Academy and Coleman Barber
9School; he married Diane Smith on July 28, 1965; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Bobby Murray worked for LTV Steel until they
11closed and then found a home with U.S. Steel; he held several
12positions throughout his years at the steel mills, including
13as a union representative for his fellow steel workers,
14defending their interests and rights; he retired from U.S.
15Steel in April of 2010 after 50 years of service; he was also a
16licensed and practicing barber for over 50 years; many of his
17customers became good friends and followed him as he traveled
18from the barbershop on 79th Street to Danny's Barbershop on
19119th and later when he worked from home; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Bobby Murray attended Apostolic Church of God
21online faithfully on Sundays from his favorite chair; he had
22been baptized at an early age; and

1    WHEREAS, Bobby Murray was a loyal and firm neighbor, a man
2of few words, and a family man of strong values and morals who
3always took care of his family and friends; his impressive
4music collection included 8 Tracks, cassettes, 45's, and
5albums with the record player to go along with his music, which
6of course included Motown favorites; he enjoyed the outdoors,
7including gardening in his backyard, and making his family
8laugh; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Bobby Murray was preceded in death by his
10parents; his daughter, Tonya; and his brothers, Alvin, Phil,
11Tyrone, Gregory, Michael, and Johnny; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Bobby Murray is survived by his wife of 56 years,
13Diane; his daughters, Sharon (Mark), LaDonna Paulk, Tracy
14Murray, and Angie (Gary); his 12 grandchildren; his 14
15great-grandchildren; his seven great-great-grandchildren; his
16brother, Darrell Murray; his sister, Doris Murray; his nieces
17and nephews; his cousins; and his friends; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
19HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
20we mourn the passing of Robert "Bobby" Lee Murray and extend
21our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who
22knew and loved him; and be it further

2presented to the family of Bobby Murray as an expression of our
3deepest sympathy.
