HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Robert "Bobby" Lee Murray, who passed away on September 7, 2021; and

WHEREAS, Bobby Murray was born to Johnnie and Sadie Murray in Memphis, Tennessee on April 7, 1945; his family relocated to Chicago, and he grew up in the Woodlawn Community; he graduated from Hyde Park Career Academy and Coleman Barber School; he married Diane Smith on July 28, 1965; and

WHEREAS, Bobby Murray worked for LTV Steel until they closed and then found a home with U.S. Steel; he held several positions throughout his years at the steel mills, including as a union representative for his fellow steel workers, defending their interests and rights; he retired from U.S. Steel in April of 2010 after 50 years of service; he was also a licensed and practicing barber for over 50 years; many of his customers became good friends and followed him as he traveled from the barbershop on 79th Street to Danny's Barbershop on 119th and later when he worked from home; and

WHEREAS, Bobby Murray attended Apostolic Church of God online faithfully on Sundays from his favorite chair; he had been baptized at an early age; and

WHEREAS, Bobby Murray was a loyal and firm neighbor, a man of few words, and a family man of strong values and morals who always took care of his family and friends; his impressive music collection included 8 Tracks, cassettes, 45's, and albums with the record player to go along with his music, which of course included Motown favorites; he enjoyed the outdoors, including gardening in his backyard, and making his family laugh; and

WHEREAS, Bobby Murray was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Tonya; and his brothers, Alvin, Phil, Tyrone, Gregory, Michael, and Johnny; and

WHEREAS, Bobby Murray is survived by his wife of 56 years, Diane; his daughters, Sharon (Mark), LaDonna Paulk, Tracy Murray, and Angie (Gary); his 12 grandchildren; his 14 great-grandchildren; his seven great-great-grandchildren; his brother, Darrell Murray; his sister, Doris Murray; his nieces and nephews; his cousins; and his friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Robert "Bobby" Lee Murray and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bobby Murray as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
