HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate the Chicago Sky on
4winning the 2021 WNBA Championship; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The Chicago Sky finished the regular season with
6an overall record of 16 wins and 16 losses and entered the
7playoffs as the No. 6 seed; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The Chicago Sky defeated the Dallas Wings and the
9Minnesota Lynx in single-elimination games to start the
10playoffs; they then defeated the No. 1 seed Connecticut Sun in
11four games in the semifinals to advance to the WNBA Finals for
12the first time since 2014; and
 
13    WHEREAS, In Game 1 of the finals, the Chicago Sky defeated
14the Phoenix Mercury 91-77; in Game 2, they dropped an overtime
15thriller to the Mercury; they dominated Game 3 and defeated
16the Mercury in front of a sellout crowd by 36 points (80-56),
17the largest margin of victory in WNBA Finals history; in Game
184, they rallied from a seven-point deficit in the fourth
19quarter to secure the franchise's first title; and
 
20    WHEREAS, The Chicago Sky are led by General Manager and
21Head Coach James Wade; and

1    WHEREAS, The Chicago Sky team members are Kahleah Copper,
2Candace Parker, Azura Stevens, Allie Quigley, Courtney
3Vandersloot, Diamond DeShields, Stefanie Dolson, Dana Evans,
4Astou Ndour-Fall, Lexie Brown, and Ruthy Hebard; therefore, be
5it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
7HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8we congratulate the Chicago Sky on winning the 2021 WNBA
9Championship, and we wish them many more successful seasons;
10and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
12presented to the coaches and players of the Chicago Sky as a
13symbol of our respect and esteem.
