| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to | 3 | | recognize the life of Maurie Berman, who passed away on May 17, | 4 | | 2015; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Maurie Berman and his wife, Flaurie "Flo" Miska, | 6 | | graduated together from Von Steuben High School in the North | 7 | | Park neighborhood of Chicago; they married in August of 1947, | 8 | | shortly after Maurie returned home from serving in the U.S. | 9 | | Army during World War II; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Maurie Berman and Flo opened Superdawg in 1948, a | 11 | | vintage drive-in with an order booth that looked like an | 12 | | airport control tower and two 12-foot-tall papier-mache hot | 13 | | dogs that stood on its roof; a second location, in Wheeling, | 14 | | features the same rooftop hot dog caricatures, a leopard | 15 | | print-wearing strongman and his tutu-clad mate, modeled after | 16 | | Maurie and Flo; the business now supports approximately 50 | 17 | | employees; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Maurie Berman enjoyed spending time with his | 19 | | children and grandchildren, riding in the family car, scoping | 20 | | out new restaurants and old buildings, and pointing out | 21 | | interesting signs; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Maurie Berman was the loving wife, best friend, | 2 | | and business partner of 68 years of Flo; the cherished father | 3 | | of Scott (Terry), Myles "Mush", and Lisa (Don) Drucker; the | 4 | | adoring grandfather of Alyssa "Lyssi" (Jordan), Laura (Ben), | 5 | | Max, Steffie, and Ross; the great-grandfather of Talia; the | 6 | | beloved brother of Rosa (Jerry) Burkman; the beloved | 7 | | father-in-law of Pat Garcia (Julie Barton); grandfather-figure | 8 | | to Livi Barton; and uncle to many nieces and nephews; | 9 | | therefore, be it
| 10 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 11 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the life | 12 | | of Maurie Berman; and be it further
