SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Glenn Joseph "Joe" Ponitz of Marengo, who passed away on January 21, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Joe Ponitz was born in Belvidere to Glenn Curtiss and Mildred A. (Andrews) Ponitz on June 2, 1954; he married Kathleen Pflug at Zion Lutheran Church in McHenry on May 28, 1977; and

WHEREAS, Joe Ponitz retired from the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority after 27 years of service; he was also a member of the Marengo Fire Department for 35 years; and

WHEREAS, Joe Ponitz was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church; he enjoyed woodworking, target shooting, the lake house, and spending time with his family; and

WHEREAS, Joe Ponitz was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Randy; and his brothers-in-law, Gordon Townsend and Steve Johnson; and

WHEREAS, Joe Ponitz is survived by his wife, Kathleen; his sons, Joseph (Sarah) Ponitz and Adam (Carrie) Ponitz; his grandchildren, Sydney, Ayden, Felicity, and Max Ponitz; his sisters, Glenda Townsend, Judy Ponitz, Donna (George) Dumproff, and Cecilia Johnson; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Glenn Joseph "Joe" Ponitz and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Joe Ponitz as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
