Updating the database of the Illinois Compiled Statutes (ILCS) is an ongoing process. Because the statute database is maintained primarily for legislative drafting purposes, statutory changes are sometimes included in the statute database before they take effect. If the source note at the end of a Section of the statutes includes a Public Act that has not yet taken effect, the version of the law that is currently in effect may have already been removed from the database and you should refer to that Public Act to see the changes made to the current law.

    Sec. 36c. The Merit Board. The Merit Board shall be composed of 11 members, 3 of whom shall be members of the Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois, one of whom shall be a member of the Board of Trustees of Southern Illinois University, one of whom shall be a member of the Board of Trustees of Chicago State University, one of whom shall be a member of the Board of Trustees of Eastern Illinois University, one of whom shall be a member of the Board of Trustees of Governors State University, one of whom shall be a member of the Board of Trustees of Illinois State University, one of whom shall be a member of the Board of Trustees of Northeastern Illinois University, one of whom shall be a member of the Board of Trustees of Northern Illinois University, and one of whom shall be a member of the Board of Trustees of Western Illinois University. The members of the Merit Board shall be elected by the respective Boards in which they hold membership and they shall serve at the pleasure of the electing Boards.
    All members of the Merit Board shall serve without compensation but shall be reimbursed for any traveling expenses incurred in attending meetings of the Merit Board.
    The Merit Board shall determine the number necessary for a quorum, elect its own chairperson and set up an Executive Committee of its own members which shall have all of the powers of the Merit Board except as limited by the Merit Board.
    The Merit Board shall cause to be elected a committee of not less than eleven members to be made up of Civil Service Employees, six of whom shall be nominated by and from the Civil Service Employees of the University of Illinois and one of whom shall be nominated by and from the Civil Service Employees of each of the other institutions specified in Section 36e, who will function in an advisory capacity to the Merit Board on all matters pertaining to the University System. This Advisory Committee shall meet at least quarterly and members of the Committee shall be reimbursed by their respective employers for time lost from work and for expenses incurred in attending meetings of the Committee.
