1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, County fairs in Illinois are a vital part of the
3 communities where they take place; and
4 WHEREAS, County fairs throughout Illinois each select a
5 young woman to represent them as their county fair queen and
6 to participate in the Miss Illinois County Fair Queen
7 Pageant; and
8 WHEREAS, Mason County selected Athena Taylor of Havana,
9 Illinois to be its county fair queen for 1996-1997; and
10 WHEREAS, Athena Taylor has now been selected Miss
11 Illinois County Fair Queen in the Statewide competition; and
12 WHEREAS, Athena Taylor is a Senior at Havana High School
13 in Havana, Illinois; while in high school she has been a part
14 of the student council and Y.A.C., played both softball and
15 volleyball, been Vice President of the H-Club, Art Club, and
16 Drama Club, and participated in five of the school plays; and
17 WHEREAS, Athena Taylor has been both a Sunday School and
18 Vacation Bible School teacher; a participant in the church
19 choir; a church camp counselor; a member of Rebekah's; a
20 participant in the Macomb Summer Volleyball League; a cook
21 for senior citizens; and a volunteer in sandbagging efforts
22 during the flood season; and
23 WHEREAS, Athena Taylor has received many awards and
24 honors, including perfect attendance awards in high school;
25 honors or high honors every quarter of school; first place in
26 a vocal trio; M.V.P. in softball; and volleyball's best
27 blocker of the year as well as All Tourney Volleyball Player
28 in Astoria; in addition to winning the Congeniality Award,
29 she was selected Miss Jr. Teen in the Peoria competition; and
30 she was also her church camp's Camper of the Week and the
31 Interview and Speech Winner for Mason County; therefore, be

2 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
3 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
4 honor Athena Taylor of Havana, Illinois as Miss Illinois
5 County Fair Queen for 1996-1997; and be it further
6 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7 presented to Athena Taylor.
