1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that the General
3 Motors Electro-Motive Division is celebrating the 75th
4 anniversary of its incorporation this year; and
5 WHEREAS, The Electro-Motive Engineering Corporation was
6 first incorporated in Cleveland, Ohio, on August 31, 1922 and
7 was purchased by the General Motors Corporation in December
8 of 1930; and
9 WHEREAS, In 1935, ground was broken for the LaGrange
10 locomotive plant, and the first locomotive was completed on
11 May 20, 1936; and
12 WHEREAS, Over the past 75 years, the General Motors
13 Electro-Motive Division has gone through much expansion and
14 modernization and continues to contribute to the North
15 American and world railroad industry and to the economy of
16 the State of Illinois; and
17 WHEREAS, The workmanship of the skilled engineers and
18 mechanics has kept abreast of the physical expansion and the
19 company's proven ability to grow is the result of the
20 experience of the employees and their pride in a job well
21 done; therefore, be it
22 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
23 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
24 congratulate the General Motors Electro-Motive Division on
25 its 75th anniversary and extend our sincere best wishes for
26 continued success in the future; and be it further
27 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
28 presented to R. William Happel, General Motors Corporation
29 Vice President and Electro-Motive Division General Manager.
