1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Jim Murphy has coached Divine Providence
3 students - both boys and girls - in a variety of sports since
4 1979; and
5 WHEREAS, He coached the teams that each of his four
6 children played on, beginning with Joanne in 1979, then
7 followed Jimmy, then Jenny, and for the past four years his
8 youngest, Meghan; and
9 WHEREAS, Under his leadership, the teams at Divine
10 Providence have enjoyed much success; they have won several
11 championships at St. John Vianney, in the Girls Catholic
12 Athletic League, in the Girls Christian League, and the
13 Westchester Tip-Off Classic; and
14 WHEREAS, This year's girls eighth grade basketball team
15 has an overall record over the past four years of 130 wins
16 and 24 losses, 2 St. John Vianney league and tournament
17 championships, 2 Christian League championships, and 2
18 Tip-Off Classic championships; and
19 WHEREAS, Many of the students he coached went on to play
20 basketball in high school and college; even those who didn't
21 reminisce about the days of playing basketball at Divine
22 Providence as some of the happiest days of their lives; and
23 WHEREAS, Jim Murphy's talent lies in bringing out the
24 best in each player; he taught his teams sportmanship and
25 camaraderie; therefore, be it
26 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
27 NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
28 commend and thank Jim Murphy for the years he has given to
29 coaching at Divine Providence and extend our sincere best
30 wishes for the future; and be it further

2 presented to Jim Murphy.
